Kids who participate in sports at the Y discover so much more than their athletic abilities. They build character, develop self-confidence and create healthy relationships through positive competition.

Participants will work on skill building and games, this allows them to put their hard work into action. We encourage kids to bring their own specialized sports equipment (cleats, shin guards, glove, etc.), all fundamental equipment will be provided by the Y. A wide variety of sports are offered for kids of all skill levels and abilities. Dates, hours and cost vary by sport. See specific sport information for more details.

The YMCA Karate Program focuses on both physical techniques and personal growth. Using both drills and games, we learn punches, kicks, breakfalls and throws, self-defense techniques, kata and sparring. Physical benefits include increased flexibility, coordination, balance and general fitness. We also work on focus, self-control, manners, confidence and respect.
The sessions are continuous throughout the year and build upon each other. However, children may join at anytime as classes are limited to 12 students so individual attention is possible.
Sensei Sarah has been studying Karate since 2003, and teaching since 2011. She is a 2nd degree black belt in Shorin-Ryu Karate, and recently visited Okinawa, Japan to train with several masters. Sarah focuses on teaching Karate to youth in belief that it is a great tool for teaching children how to work toward a goal and achieve success while building self-confidence. Because she also believes it is very important to enjoy learning, classes are disciplined yet fun.
