At the Y we believe that getting fit starts by taking one step at a time. For many in our community, taking that step can be a challenge and keeping up with a fitness plan even more so. We are happy to announce a program that sets the beginning walker or runner up for success. We call it "Get Ready to Ramble" and it was designed by certified professionals from both Mayo Clinic Health System - Cannon Falls, Lake City and Red Wing and the Red Wing Family YMCA. The two trainers will lead this evidence based 9 week program appropriate for people of all ages and abilities. Come alone or bring your family or a friend and join us for a great journey into better health!
Participants in the program will receive:
- 9 week training plan with space for goal setting & record keeping
- 9 "Learn from the Expert" sessions every Monday at 5:15 p.m.
- 9 to 18 guided walks or runs during the session
- Help developing a plan to sustain this new level of fitness
- Post walk or run cool down
- Weekly e-mails that motive, educate and inspire
Participants may register for either session or both depending on their individual goals.
At each session, we will break into walking and running groups as follows:
First Steps: A beginning program that will take you from 0 to 2 Miler or up to a 5K in 6 to 10 weeks. You will be ready to walk either the 2 Miler or 5K course depending on your initial starting place.
Ready to Run: For moderate exercisers who what to take on the challenge of running the 5K, even if you have never run before.
The 2013 session of Get Ready to Ramble had over 60 participants representing a variety of ages and abilities.
