Overview of age guidelines
All ages are welcome at the Y. To ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience at the Y, there are guidelines for activities kids and teens can participate in - with or without parents or guardians.
1-8 Years of Age
- Must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times while at the YMCA, including youth enrolled in sports or aquatic programming
- Must be accompanied by an adult in the water, unless they are able to pass an appropriate swim test—if they pass the swim test, a parent doesn’t need to be in the water, but needs to remain in the pool area
- Kids age 6 and under are not allowed in the Wellness Center at any time
- Child watch services are available for kids aged 1 - 8
9 - 11 Years of Age
- Must be supervised by a parent or guardian (18 and up) that is in the building, but does not have to remain in the same area except in the water where a parent must accompany, and in the water, unless they are able to pass an appropriate swim test
- Youth between the ages of 9 and 11 that are enrolled in sports or aquatic programming it is recommended that a parent or guardian (age 18 or older) remain onsite
- Youth must be active Y members and complete a youth wellness center orientation to use the wellness center with a guardian
12 - 15 Years of Age
- May attend the YMCA without parent / guardian supervision
- May utilize the Wellness Center AFTER successfully completing a Youth Fitness Center orientation—sign up at the Welcome Desk
- This is for Members ONLY, guests are not permitted to use the Wellness Center under the age of 16
- Must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to attend a Group Exercise class
16+ Years of Age
- Full use of facility
